Setback

Got a letter from Anthem yesterday. After writing an appeal letter for the bloodwork done in March, having my boss write a letter confirming why I was in CA, my doctor's office write a letter to say the bloodwork was time sensitive and had to be done while I was in CA, and submitting all the documentation, they are still denying coverage. No matter what I say or how I say it, Anthem insists that out of state is out of network and will not be covered unless its an emergency. I hate health insurance. I mean, I'm grateful for my coverage, but I hate health insurance companies and their asinine rules.

I can request a second appeal, which I will, but I know the answer will be the same. Mostly I just want to buy some time before having to write a check for $470. That's a little more than 2 weeks pay for Matt. ::sigh:: We just keep digging in deeper. I really hope he gets a job soon.

My temp dropped today, so AF should arrive soon. What happens if CD1 is Saturday? I need to have a CD3 ultrasound to see what's going on with my ovaries and I can't just show up on Monday and am not likely to get an appointment the same day I call... ugh, I'm so annoyed over the thing with Anthem I don't even want to think about it.

  1. Ugh. I'm so sorry. That totally sucks. Insurance companies annoy and/or piss me off on a regular basis. I wish there was something I could tell you that would instantly make it easier or better, but just know I feel for you!

  2. Insurance companies are so difficult. I'm currently haggling with mine over $1300.

With my RE, she's fine doing the u/s CD3-CD5, so it has a little wiggle room. She starts patients on letrozole/Clomid anytime in that window. Maybe yours is the same?

  3. I'm sorry. I hate dealing with insurance companies. BG fought for 3 years for them to cover medications from when he had pneumonia. Was he not supposed to take them? So frustrating! If appealing isn't too much work, and doesn't take too much of your energy, you might try once more. Maybe they'll get tired of you and just pay, or maybe you'll end up with a different claims person and they'll send it through. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

  4. Insurance companies are terrible. Great to have some insurance, of course - but if there's any possible way they can deny you something, they will usually.

  5. Dont even get me started about insurance companies. Im so sorry you are fighting with them. Ugg.

I would call your RE and ask them what you should do if CD 1 is on Saturday. Mine did u/s on the weekends, but I have a feeling not all clinics do that. They'll be able to tell you what to do though- and then you wont have to stress about it if it does happen.

  6. Insurance companies are crooks. They are the scum of the earth in my opinion. I could go on all day about them not covering infertility because it is not "medically necessary" Bitch, come live in my head for a week or 2 and THEN tell me it is not medically necessary.

I'm sorry they are giving you such a hard time :( If you call first thing Monday and explain the situation do you think your Dr. will find time to squeeze you in somewhere? Or you could call today and schedule it just in case?
